Stoke ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Stoke platform at getstoke.net and the Stoke mobile app (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

By using the Service you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign up via email, Google, or Apple, we collect your name, email address, profile photo, and the unique identifier returned by the sign-in provider.

Mentor information

If you sign up as a mentor, we additionally collect your bio, skills, hourly rate, currency preference, and Stripe Connect account details needed to pay you.

Content you submit

We store the videos, audio, comments, feedback requests, and reviews you submit through the Service.

Payment information

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store credit-card numbers on our servers. Stripe provides us with a customer identifier, payment history, and payout records. See Stripe's Privacy Policy for details.

Device & usage data

We collect technical information about how you access the Service — including device type, operating system, browser type, IP address, and interaction logs — to keep the Service secure and improve it.

Push notification tokens

If you enable push notifications, we store the Firebase Cloud Messaging token issued by your device so we can deliver notifications to you.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and operate your account
• To connect students with mentors and deliver feedback
• To process payments and pay out to mentors
• To send transactional emails (e.g. feedback received, payment confirmations)
• To send push notifications you have opted into
• To prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access
• To comply with legal obligations
• To improve the Service through aggregated analytics

3. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only with:

• Other users you choose to interact with — for example, a mentor sees the student who books them and the video they submit.
• Service providers we rely on: Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, messaging), Stripe (payments), SendGrid (email), Algolia (search), OpenAI (mentor bio assistance), Fly.io (web hosting).
• Law enforcement when required by valid legal process.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile and content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records for tax, accounting, or legal reasons.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time

6. Children's Privacy

Stoke is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where required by local law). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage at rest via Google Cloud, and access controls on our backend. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and Australia, where our service providers operate. We take steps to ensure your data receives an adequate level of protection wherever it is processed.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or via an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the latest version.
